Practical rehabilitation for getting back to everyday life
Mental health symptoms can make everyday activities increasingly difficult. Routines may disappear, people may withdraw from activities, driving may become overwhelming, and returning to work can feel unmanageable.
Occupational therapy focuses on the practical impact of these symptoms.
Our therapists work collaboratively with clients to gradually rebuild routines, increase participation and develop strategies for managing barriers within their home, community and workplace.
Treatment is individualized and focused on meaningful, achievable goals.
Activation Therapy
Activation Therapy helps clients gradually return to activities that have become difficult or have fallen out of their routine due to depression, anxiety, pain, trauma or prolonged absence from work.
Treatment focuses on establishing structure, increasing activity and rebuilding confidence through achievable goals and meaningful daily activities.
Sessions may include developing routines, activity scheduling, community participation, sleep and self-care routines, pacing, problem solving and gradual progression toward work or other important life roles.

Exposure-Based Occupational Therapy
Avoidance can gradually make a person’s world smaller.
Our occupational therapists use structured, gradual exposure to help clients return to activities and environments they have been avoiding because of anxiety, fear or trauma-related symptoms.
Treatment is practical and activity-based. Exposure may involve leaving the home, entering busy environments, attending appointments, shopping, travelling in a vehicle or gradually returning to a workplace.
When clients are also receiving psychological treatment, occupational therapy can complement that work by helping them apply strategies within everyday situations.
Driver’s Anxiety Management Program
Driving anxiety can develop following a motor vehicle collision, traumatic event or prolonged period away from driving.
Our Driver’s Anxiety Management Program provides gradual, individualized rehabilitation aimed at helping clients become more comfortable travelling in and operating a vehicle.
Treatment may begin with anxiety-management strategies and graded exposure as a passenger before progressing toward increasingly challenging driving situations.
When appropriate, we collaborate with a licensed driving instructor to provide additional assessment and supported on-road practice.
Cognitive Work Hardening
Cognitive Work Hardening provides structured rehabilitation for clients preparing to return to cognitively demanding employment.
Treatment gradually builds the skills and tolerances required for work, including sustained attention, organization, multitasking, cognitive endurance, pacing and management of competing demands.
Activities are progressively increased to more closely reflect the duration, complexity and expectations of the client’s work.
The goal is to identify remaining barriers, practise effective strategies and improve readiness for a safe and sustainable return to work.
